How to Make Wine From Concentrate
People have been making wine since 4000 B.C., and possibly as early as 6000 B.C. If the ancients could make wine without modern conveniences and technology, you can certainly make wine in your home. Wine can be made inexpensively with household ingredients and fruit juice from concentrate. Be aware that if you are under 21 years of age in the United States it is illegal to consume alcohol, whether purchased or made at home.
Things You'll Need
- 2 cans (11.5 oz) frozen juice concentrate
- 1 1/4 lbs sugar
- 2 tsp. acid blend
- 1 tsp. pectic enzyme
- 1 tsp. yeast nutrient
- 1 gallon water
- Wine yeast
Instructions
-
Boil 1 qt. of water. Dissolve the sugar into the water while it is boiling.
-
Remove the water from the heat and stir in your juice concentrate. Pour your mixture into a resealable 1-gallon container.
-
Add the acid blend, pectin enzyme and yeast nutrient to the mixture and stir. Top off your mixture with water until the container is full. Discard any excess water.
-
Cover your container for 24 hours. Some suggested ways to cover it are by using a balloon or by using a plastic bag and rubber band. These methods allow gas to be released without pressurizing the container.
-
Stir wine yeast into your mixture. You can now seal the container with an airtight seal if desired. Store wine in a warm, dark place for about a month.
-
Pour your wine into a new jug after 1 month. Let it sit for another month or month and a half, then change jugs again. Let it sit for another couple of months until it looks clear rather than cloudy. Once it is clear it is ready to drink.
