How to Make Cherry Wine
Making your own homemade wine is a wonderful experience. It's hard to believe that some of the best homemade wines are not made from grapes. Making cherry wine offers a unique variation to traditional varieties. You can easily make cherry wine right at home for holidays and parties, as a gift or for your own drinking pleasure.
Things You'll Need
- 1 quart of fresh cherries
- 2 cups of sugar
- 1 package of yeast
- 1 gallon of water
- Colander or cheesecloth
- Jug or large container
Instructions
-
Remove the stems and seeds from the cherries. In a large bowl, carefully crush the cherries to release the juices.
-
Dissolve the sugar in 1 cup of hot water, stirring to combine. Let the mixture cool to room temperature.
-
Mix the yeast in 2 cups of warm water. It may foam a little; that's okay. Let this cool as well.
-
Combine the cooled sugar mixture with the crushed fruit and stir well.
-
Add the yeast to the sugar and fruit mixture and blend together.
-
Fill your jug with the fruit mixture and add remaining water until the container is full. Put the cap on your jug and store the wine in a cool, dark place. Ensure it cannot be reached by direct sunlight.
-
Let your wine ferment for 2 to 3 weeks. After this time, strain your wine through a colander or cheesecloth to remove any chunks of fruit and store it in a bottle or container for enjoyment.
