How do you reduce brandy on the stove?
Stovetop Reduction:
1. Measure and Pour: Measure the amount of brandy you need for your recipe and pour it into a small saucepan with tall sides.
2. Heat on Low: Place the saucepan over low heat and let it warm up.
3. Stir Occasionally: As the brandy warms up, stir occasionally to ensure even heating.
4. Reduce Volume by Half: Allow the brandy to simmer over low heat until about half of the initial volume has evaporated. Depending on the amount of brandy and the intensity of your stovetop heat, this could take anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes.
5. Observe Consistency: As the brandy reduces, its consistency will begin to change. It will initially be thin, then gradually become thicker and more syrupy.
6. Monitor Taste and Aroma: Keep an eye on the brandy's flavor and aroma. Sniff and taste a bit as it reduces to ensure you don't over-reduce and burn it.
7. Remove from Heat: Once the brandy has reduced by about half and achieved the desired consistency, remove the saucepan from the heat source and let it cool.
8. Use as Desired: The reduced brandy can now be incorporated into your recipe or stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for later use.
