What are 5 facts about starfish?
Here are 5 facts about starfish:
1. They aren't actually fish: Starfish are echinoderms, a group of marine animals that also includes sea urchins, sand dollars, and sea cucumbers. They have a hard, spiny exterior, unlike the soft, scaly bodies of fish.
2. They have incredible regenerative abilities: If a starfish loses an arm, it can grow a new one! It's even possible for a starfish to regenerate a whole new body from just one arm.
3. They use their tube feet to move: Starfish have hundreds of tiny, suction-cupped tube feet on their underside. These feet work together to allow the starfish to move, crawl, and even climb!
4. They are carnivores: Despite their peaceful appearance, starfish are predators. They use their tube feet to pry open clams, mussels, and other shellfish, then evert their stomachs into the shell to digest their prey.
5. They come in many colors and shapes: Starfish can be found in a variety of colors, from bright red to deep purple to vibrant orange. They also come in different shapes, with some having five arms and others having more!
