What type of diet do jellyfish have?

Jellyfish are carnivorous predators and feed on a wide variety of prey items depending on their size and species. Their primary food source is plankton, which includes copepods, rotifers, and small fish larvae. Some species of jellyfish also consume larger animals, such as small crustaceans, comb jellies, ctenophores, and other jellyfish. They use their tentacles to capture their prey and then use their stinging cells, called nematocysts, to inject venom that immobilizes the prey. Jellyfish then use their oral arms to transport the prey into their digestive system. The prey is broken down and absorbed as it moves through the jellyfish's digestive cavity.
