What is the Antarctic Cod Fish Habitat?

Geographic Range: Antarctic waters (subantartic)

Surface and Water Column: Found in waters near the surface to 98 feet (30 meters) deep, but are usually caught between 19-59 feet (6-18 meters) deep. Found in shallow or coastal waters; associated with ice sheets, pack ice, floating icebergs, and other floating materials like kelp, but mostly found associated with sea ice and subantartic glacial ice.

Habitat: Usually found in cold waters between 28 and 32°F (-2 and 0°C). Prefers clear coastal waters over turbid waters in bays, fjords, channels, inlets and protected coastlines. Often stays close to underwater structures, such as rocks and kelp.

Bottom Composition: Found in rocky, pebbly, gravelly, and sandy bottoms, as well as sea grass (Zostera) and kelp beds.
