Why does poultry have a wishbone?
Poultry has a wishbone because it is the clavicle, or collarbone, of the bird. The wishbone is formed by the fusion of the two clavicles, and it serves to connect the breastbone to the shoulder joint. In birds, the wishbone is particularly strong and well-developed, as it plays an important role in flight. The wishbone helps to support the wings and provides a point of attachment for the flight muscles. Additionally, the wishbone helps to protect the bird's neck and chest from injury during flight.
