Should you add water when cooking ham?

It is generally not necessary to add water when baking or roasting a ham.

Hams are typically brined or cured, and this process already seasons and flavors the meat. Adding more liquid can dilute the flavor of the ham.

Ham already contains a lot of water, and as it cooks, the natural juices will be released, creating a moist and flavorful dish.

However, if you prefer a more moist ham, you can add a small amount of liquid, such as apple juice, pineapple juice, or chicken broth, to the baking pan. This will help to baste the ham and keep it from drying out, without compromising the flavor.
