How long does it take to brine a ham?
Brining times vary depending on the size and thickness of the ham, as well as the desired level of saltiness. A good rule of thumb is to brine a ham for approximately 1 day per pound of ham. For example, a 10-pound ham would need to be brined for 10 days.
Here is a general guideline for brining times for different weights of ham:
1. 5 pound ham: 1-2 days
2. 10 pound ham: 3-4 days
3. 15 pound ham: 5-6 days
4. 20-25 pound ham: 7-10 days
If you are not sure how long to brine a ham, it is always better to err on the side of caution and brine for a shorter amount of time. You can always add more salt to the ham after it is cooked if needed.
