Why cook a precooked ham?
You're right to question that! You generally don't "cook" a precooked ham. Here's why:
* Precooked hams are already cooked. They've been processed and fully cooked at the factory.
* Heating is for flavor and texture. You heat a precooked ham to warm it up, enhance its flavor, and make it more tender.
Here's what you do with a precooked ham:
* Reheating: You can heat it in the oven, slow cooker, or even in the microwave.
* Glazing: A common practice is to glaze the ham with a sweet or savory sauce (like brown sugar, honey, or mustard) during the heating process. This gives it extra flavor and a beautiful finish.
If you're ever unsure about a ham, check the label! It will always state whether it's precooked or needs further cooking.
