How to Cook a Sirloin Tip Roast in a Roaster Bag
Sirloin tip roast is a small, boneless cut that comes from the round portion of the steer. Although it's lean and nutritious, it's not the most tender cut of meat. Cooking it in a roasting bag is ideal because the bag traps steam so the meat comes out soft and juicy. Browning it before you put it in the bag takes a few extra minutes, but it adds even more flavor. Because of its small size, sirloin tip roast cooks faster than other roasts. Watch it carefully to avoid overcooking it.
Things You'll Need
- Paper towel
- Frying pan
- Oil or nonstick cooking spray
- Seasoning
- 1 tablespoon flour
- Knife
- Casserole dish or roasting pan
Instructions
-
Remove the roast from its packaging and pat it dry with a paper towel. Removing the surface moisture allows it to brown better.
-
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees or according to package directions.
-
Heat a frying pan over medium-high heat. Coat the pan with oil or nonstick cooking spray.
-
Brown the roast in the pan, turning it until each side is golden brown. Season it thoroughly.
-
Open the roasting bag and pour the flour into it. Close the bag and shake it to distribute the flour evenly. The flour keeps the bag from sticking to the roast.
-
Open the bag and place the roast inside. Secure the bag with the nylon tie.
-
Place the roast in the casserole dish or roasting pan. Cut a few slits in the top of the roasting bag with a sharp knife. These slits allow steam to escape so the bag doesn't explode.
-
Cook the roast in the preheated oven for 45 minutes to one hour. Roasting bags cook food more quickly, so one hour usually is sufficient.
-
Remove the pan from the oven and allow it to sit on the counter for 10 minutes. Transfer the roast to a cutting board and thinly slice it.
-
Pour the juices collected in the bag into a gravy bowl, and pour that over the sliced roast for extra flavor.
-
Discard the bag for easy cleanup.
