How much ground beef in barbecues to feed 100 people?

It's impossible to say exactly how much ground beef you'll need for 100 people at a barbecue without more information! Here's why:

* How much does each person eat? Some people eat a lot of meat, while others prefer a smaller portion. Are you serving kids?

* What else is on the menu? If you have a lot of sides and other main dishes, people will likely eat less meat.

* What kind of barbecue are you having? A casual cookout might call for a smaller portion than a formal barbecue.

Here's a general guideline:

* For a casual barbecue: Plan for about 1/4 pound (4 ounces) of ground beef per person. This will be enough for a decent-sized burger or meat for tacos/sliders.

* For a formal barbecue: You may want to plan for 1/3 pound (5 ounces) per person.

Example:

* Casual BBQ: 100 people x 4 ounces = 400 ounces of ground beef = 25 pounds of ground beef.

* Formal BBQ: 100 people x 5 ounces = 500 ounces of ground beef = 31.25 pounds of ground beef.

Always better to have too much than too little! It's a good idea to round up your estimate a bit to make sure you have enough.
