How to Barbecue Brats
A German-style sausage usually made from pork, bratwurst is great grilling fare. Take inspiration from the sausage's German roots and serve the brats in grilled buns with sauteed onions, sauerkraut and a spicy mustard. Pair the brats with cabbage and a warm potato salad dressed in a light vinaigrette for an authentic meal. The brats only take a few minutes to cook, so be sure to prepare your side dishes before you toss them on the grill.
Things You'll Need
- Oil
- Tongs
Instructions
-
Prepare your barbecue for medium heat. For propane grills, set all burners to medium. For charcoal grills, light the charcoal until it is completely gray with ash.
-
Clean the grilling grate and wipe it with oil to prevent the brats from sticking.
-
Grill the bratwurst, with the grill hood down, until the internal temperature reaches 160 degrees Fahrenheit, about 10 minutes. Flip the brats over with tongs regularly to ensure even browning.
