Good Ways to Season & Grill Pork Chops
Pork chops are a sophisticated alternative to steak, burgers or hot dogs when you’re in the mood to grill. Imitating savory pork chops found on steakhouse menus is simple when you understand the dual purpose of seasonings. The first purpose, of course, is flavor. However, some seasoning techniques also seal in the juices of pork chops as they grill over a hot flame. Consuming undercooked meat makes you vulnerable to food-borne illnesses. The FDA recommends cooking pork chops to an internal cooking temperature of 145 degrees Fahrenheit. It’s always good practice to have a meat thermometer handy when grilling meat. Depending on the heat of your grill, achieving this temperature can take anywhere from five minutes on each side to as long as 10 minutes per side. The FDA recommends a three minute resting period once the pork has reached this internal temperature. The resting time will allow the pork to raise a few extra degrees for safety. It will also allow the juices to fully disperse throughout the meat, making the chops succulent and juicy.
