What happens if you wash your chicken?
You shouldn't wash your chicken! Here's why:
* Spreading bacteria: Washing chicken with water can splash bacteria like salmonella around your sink and kitchen, contaminating other surfaces and foods.
* Not effective: Washing chicken doesn't actually kill bacteria. The water just spreads it around.
* Cooking kills bacteria: The best way to kill bacteria is to cook your chicken thoroughly to an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
Instead of washing your chicken, follow these steps:
1. Keep raw chicken separate: Use separate cutting boards and utensils for raw chicken and other foods.
2. Wash your hands: Thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water after handling raw chicken.
3. Clean surfaces: Clean your work surfaces, cutting boards, and utensils with hot soapy water or a bleach solution after handling raw chicken.
4. Cook thoroughly: Make sure your chicken is cooked to an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) to kill bacteria.
By following these simple steps, you can help prevent the spread of foodborne illnesses.
