Why is City Chicken called - when it made with pork?

City Chicken, also known as Mock Chicken, is a dish made with meat that doesn't resemble or share the same taste as regular chicken.

Different recipes exist, but the most popular version is made with seasoned pieces of pork, such as pork shoulder, tenderloin, or cubed ham, that are then battered, fried, or baked until crispy.

There are several theories behind the origin of the name City Chicken. One suggests that it was a way for people in urban areas, who may not have had easy access to fresh chicken, to create a similar-tasting dish using affordable pork.

Another theory is that the term "City Chicken" was coined to make the dish more appealing to consumers, especially children, who might be more familiar with chicken than pork.

Over time, the name City Chicken stuck and became widely recognized as a pork-based dish, regardless of its similarity or lack thereof to actual chicken.
