How do you cook a chicken on the top of stove?
To cook a chicken on the top of the stove, you will need the following:
- A whole chicken, about 3-4 pounds
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 cup water
Instructions:
1. Preheat a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat.
2. Rinse the chicken inside and out and pat dry.
3. Rub the chicken with olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
4. Place the chicken breast-side up in the skillet or Dutch oven.
5. Add the water to the skillet or Dutch oven.
6. Bring the liquid to a boil, then reduce heat to low and cover.
7. Simmer the chicken for 15-20 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through.
8. Check the chicken by inserting a meat thermometer into the thickest part of the thigh. The chicken is done when the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
9. Once the chicken is cooked, remove it from the skillet or Dutch oven and let it rest for 5-10 minutes before carving and serving.
