Why are there more opposing muscle groups in the lower wing than upper of a chicken?
This statement is not correct. Birds, including chickens, have a very similar arrangement of opposing muscle groups in their wings, regardless of whether the wing is considered upper or lower. The muscles that control wing movement are located in the shoulder and chest, and they work in pairs to flex (bend) and extend (straighten) the wing.
