How much milk should fant have?
A rough guideline for how much milk a newborn baby needs per day:
- First week: 1 to 2 ounces per feeding, 8 to 12 feedings per day
- Second week: 2 to 3 ounces per feeding, 7 to 10 feedings per day
- Third week: 3 to 4 ounces per feeding, 6 to 8 feedings per day
- Fourth week: 4 to 5 ounces per feeding, 5 to 7 feedings per day
A rough guideline for how much milk a baby needs per day between 1 and 6 months of age:
- 1 to 2 months: 25 to 30 ounces per day
- 2 to 4 months: 32 to 38 ounces per day
- 4 to 6 months: 36 to 40 ounces per day
After 6 months, formula-fed infants should be taking approximately 24 to 32 ounces of formula per day.
