How to Refrigerate a Pumpkin Pie After Baking It
Pumpkin pie is a traditional dessert. Over the years, pumpkin has become more than just a popular item on dessert menus or a frequently used treat for holidays; it has become integrated into the traditions of many families. For some people, it can be hard to imagine a Thanksgiving or Christmas without the sweet taste of pumpkin paired with a flaky crust. While eating a slice of pumpkin pie isn't much of a challenge, storing it properly requires more attention.
Things You'll Need
- Plastic wrap
- Airtight container
- Refrigerator
Instructions
-
Place the freshly baked pie on the counter to cool. Leave it out for 2 to 4 hours or until it cools to room temperature. Place a sheet of wax paper over the top of the pie to protect the surface while still allowing heat to escape.
-
Loosely cover the pie with plastic wrap once it has cooled. Placing a wooden toothpick in the pie will help keep the plastic wrap from sticking to the surface of the pie.
-
Place the pumpkin pie in a container. An airtight, snap-lid container will also keep the pie protected and reduce the risk of contaminants.
-
Stick the covered pumpkin pie in the refrigerator. Storing the pie in the refrigerator slows the growth of bacteria.
-
Refrigerate the pie for two to three days.
