How to Refrigerate a Pumpkin Pie After Baking It

Pumpkin pie is a traditional dessert. Over the years, pumpkin has become more than just a popular item on dessert menus or a frequently used treat for holidays; it has become integrated into the traditions of many families. For some people, it can be hard to imagine a Thanksgiving or Christmas without the sweet taste of pumpkin paired with a flaky crust. While eating a slice of pumpkin pie isn't much of a challenge, storing it properly requires more attention.

Things You'll Need

  • Plastic wrap
  • Airtight container
  • Refrigerator

Instructions

  1. Place the freshly baked pie on the counter to cool. Leave it out for 2 to 4 hours or until it cools to room temperature. Place a sheet of wax paper over the top of the pie to protect the surface while still allowing heat to escape.

  2. Loosely cover the pie with plastic wrap once it has cooled. Placing a wooden toothpick in the pie will help keep the plastic wrap from sticking to the surface of the pie.

  3. Place the pumpkin pie in a container. An airtight, snap-lid container will also keep the pie protected and reduce the risk of contaminants.

  4. Stick the covered pumpkin pie in the refrigerator. Storing the pie in the refrigerator slows the growth of bacteria.

  5. Refrigerate the pie for two to three days.
