Who invented popcicles?

The inventor credited with creating the first popsicle was Frank Epperson, an 11-year-old boy from San Francisco. In 1905, Epperson accidentally left a cup of water and soda powder on his porch overnight, with a stirring stick in it. The next morning, he found that the mixture had frozen into a delicious icy treat, and he named it the "Epsicle."

After he grew older, Epperson later started a company to manufacture popsicles and marketed them as "Pop's 'sicle" in the early 1920s. He eventually sold the company and his patent rights in 1923 to the Joe Lowe Company of New York. The product became increasingly popular under the trademarked name "Popsicle," which later became a genericized trademark.
