What can you substitute for vegetable oil in cookies?
Unsweetened Applesauce:
A great choice for adding moisture to cookies. Use an equal amount of applesauce to replace all or part of the vegetable oil.
Melted Butter:
While not as healthy as other options, melted butter provides additional flavor and richness. Use 3/4 cup melted butter instead of 1 cup vegetable oil.
Coconut Oil:
Has a tropical taste and solid at room temperature. Melt coconut oil before adding it to the cookie dough. Use ¾ cup of melted coconut oil to replace 1 cup of vegetable oil.
Avocado Oil:
A neutral-flavored oil that is slightly thicker than vegetable oil. Use avocado oil in a 1:1 ratio as vegetable oil.
Olive Oil:
Has a distinctive flavor, so it is best to use it in cookies that can carry the oil's flavor, such as chocolate chip or oatmeal cookies. A light olive oil may be the best choice.
Canola Oil:
Considered neutral in flavor, making it a good substitute for vegetable oil in most cookie recipes. Use ½ cup of canola oil for each cup of vegetable oil.
Grapessed Oil:
High in antioxidants and has a mild, neutral taste. Use it the same way you would vegetable oil in a cookie recipe.
