Ingredients and Materials:

- Measure and mix dry ingredients:

- Preheat the oven according to the recipe.

- In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, salt, and any additional dry ingredients such as spices, sugar, or chocolate chips. Use a whisk to mix thoroughly until the dry ingredients are well combined.

- Cream butter and sugar:

- In a separate bowl, use a hand mixer or stand mixer to beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together on medium speed until light and fluffy. The mixture should become pale in color and creamy in texture.

- Mix in eggs and vanilla:

- Add one egg at a time to the creamed butter and sugar mixture, beating well after each addition. Beat in the vanilla extract as well.

- Combine wet and dry ingredients:

- Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredient mixture, alternating with small additions of milk as needed. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.

- Shape the dough:

- Take tablespoons of dough and roll them into balls. Place the balls on ungreased baking sheets, leaving a few inches of space between each cookie. Slightly flatten each ball with the bottom of a glass dipped in granulated sugar.

- Bake the cookies:

- Place the baking sheets in the preheated oven and bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges start to brown and the centers are set.

- Cool and enjoy:

- Remove the baking sheets from the oven and let the cookies cool on the sheets for a few minutes. Then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely before serving.
