How to Make Sprinkles Stick on Baked Cookies
Decorating cookies with sprinkles sounds like a simple way to dress up your sweet treats. However, if you sprinkle them over the top of baked cookies, they will fall off before the treat reaches your mouth. You must use an adhesive to make sprinkles stick on baked cookies. If you use the most common adhesive, egg whites, you will darken the cookies' tops and make them crispier. Milk will adhere sprinkles to your cookies in no time.
Things You'll Need
- 1/4 cup milk
- Small, microwave safe bowl
- Pastry brush
- Small funnel (optional)
Instructions
-
Allow the baked cookies to cool for at least 10 minutes after you remove them from the oven. This keeps their top from becoming soggy when you apply the sprinkles.
-
Pour 1/4 cup of milk into a small, microwave safe bowl and heat it on high for 15 seconds.
-
Dip the tip of a pastry brush into the heated milk and brush it over the top of 1 cookie. Use just enough milk to moisten the cookie's surface.
-
Hold a small funnel over the center of the cookie and pour the sprinkles through it. This keeps the sprinkles from falling onto the cookie sheet and making a mess. However, if you would like thinly dispersed sprinkles, apply them without the funnel.
-
Repeat the process with the rest of your baked cookies, warming up more milk if necessary.
-
Allow the cookies to cool for an additional 2 hours before serving. This allows the milk time to dry so the cookies have a normal consistency.
