How Do I Bake a Big Cookie? (5 Steps)
Big cookies make charming and tasty birthday and holiday gifts for friends and loved ones. You can also serve a large cookie instead of a cake during parties and get-togethers. To make the cookie even more special, bake it in a whimsical shape, such as a heart, using a specialty pan. Big cookies look delightful when decorated with frosting, icing and candy. Before presenting the cookie as a gift, safely package it in an appropriate-size cardboard box.
Things You'll Need
- 10 to 12-inch round, square or heart-shaped pizza pan or baking sheet
- Softened, unsalted butter, vegetable shortening or a silicone baking mat
- 16 to 17 ounces of homemade or pre-made cookie dough
- All-purpose flour (optional)
- Spatula (optional)
- Wire cooking rack
- Decorative toppings
Instructions
-
Preheat your oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit 10 to 15 minutes before baking the cookie; the correct oven temperature will ensure the proper cookie texture and appearance.
-
Grease a cool or room temperature 10 to 12-inch baking sheet with softened, unsalted butter or vegetable shortening. Use a silicone baking mat in place of the butter or shortening if you desire.
-
Sprinkle the greased pan or sheet with all-purpose flour if you are baking a chocolate chip cookie; the flour will prevent the melted chocolate from sticking.
-
Transfer 16 to 17 ounces of homemade or pre-made, packaged cookie dough to the pan or sheet and spread it evenly over the surface using clean fingers or a spatula. Leave a 1-inch space around the pan or sheet edges to allow for dough expansion.
-
Place the pan or sheet on the oven's center rack. Bake the cookie for 18 to 20 minutes, or until it begins to turn golden brown. Transfer the cookie immediately to a wire cooling rack to stop the baking process. Decorate the cooled cookie with your choice of toppings.
