How to Make Candy Bows

A candy bow makes an adorable topping for virtually any flavor of cake -- from chocolate to angel food. You can make your own candy bows using classic candy melts. Candy melts are easy-to-form, brightly colored, sweet, hard candies. You can form them into candy bows that are pretty to look at and fun to eat. This preparation calls for red candy melts, which makes a festive bow, however, you can use bright yellow, green, blue or other shades as well.

Things You'll Need

  • 14-ounce package of red candy melts
  • 1/3 cup light corn syrup

Instructions

  1. Cook the candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl for 30 seconds using your microwave. Carefully stir the mixture once, then heat the candy for 30 more seconds.

  2. Add the light corn syrup to the mixture and stir. Let the mixture cool slightly, then place it in a large zip seal bag. Let the bag stand at room temperature for eight hours.

  3. Dust a flat surface with powdered sugar. Knead the candy mixture for two to three minutes, until soft.

  4. Roll the candy out with a rolling pin to about 1/16-inch thickness.

  5. Cut the candy into about six strips, 12-inches by 1/2-inch.

  6. Place the ends of two strips together to form loops. Set the loops together to form the top of the bow. Add two strips and attach them at the back to form the bottom part of the bow.

  7. Place the finished bows on a baking sheet and let them set for at least 30 minutes.
