What is the basic sponge cake?
The basic sponge cake recipe consists of the following ingredients:
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup sugar
4 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup milk
1/4 cup vegetable oil
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Grease and flour a 9-inch round baking pan.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder.
In a separate bowl, beat together the eggs, vanilla extract, and oil.
Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Let the cake cool completely before frosting or serving.
