Coconut filling or desiccated coconut is made by drying and shredding coconut meat. The drying process removes the moisture content of the coconut, making the shelf life longer. Grated coconut can be dried in various ways, including using oven, sun-drying, or using a dehydrator.
This finely or medium coarse product can be used as an ingredient in cookies, cakes muffins and other baked goods, as a topping on pies, ice cream and other desserts, or as an ingredient in candy. It can also be mixed into granola, trail mixes and other snack foods.
