How to Deep Fry With Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is often used to deep fry because it is a stable oil that can withstand high temperature cooking. Pure or virgin coconut oil is preferred, but it can be pricy and hard to find. Processed coconut oil can be found in most grocery stores. Coconut oil does not need to be refrigerated after opening and will not go rancid on the pantry shelf.
Things You'll Need
- Deep fryer or deep, heavy skillet
- Deep fry basket
- Candy thermometer
- Kitchen tongs
- Paper towels
Instructions
-
Fill the deep fryer to the oil level marked inside the fryer pot. If using a heavy skillet, fill the skillet no more than half full of coconut oil.
-
Set the temperature on the deep fryer to 350 degrees. If using a skillet, heat the oil to 350 degrees and gauge the temperature with a candy thermometer.
-
Place the food to be deep-fried into the deep fry basket and slowly lower the basket into the hot oil.
-
Fry the food until golden brown. Lift the basket from the oil and allow excess oil to drain from the bottom before removing the food.
-
Use kitchen tongs to remove the food from the basket. Place the food on paper towels to absorb any remaining excess oil.
