How to Cook Diced Potatoes in a Microwave (3 Steps)
Cooking potatoes in the microwave saves time over conventional cooking methods such as the oven or stovetop. Many microwave potato techniques focus more on cooking an entire potato to replicate a baked potato, but you also can cook diced potatoes in the microwave. This will save you time when making recipes that call for diced potatoes because potatoes take less time in the microwave and leave you with an easier cleanup. Diced potatoes take less time to cook in the microwave than whole potatoes.
Things You'll Need
- Potatoes
- Knife
- Potato peeler (optional)
- Microwave-safe dish with lid
- Microwave
Instructions
-
Wash the potatoes with cold water and scrub off any dirt. Peel the potatoes using a knife or potato peeler, if you prefer them skinned. Dice the potatoes to the size needed for your recipe.
-
Place the diced potatoes in a microwave-safe dish and make sure to spread them evenly. Use a wide but shallow dish. Do not add any water. Partially cover with the lid to build up steam during cooking, but do not snap on the lid or the dish might explode.
-
Cook in the microwave on high heat for four minutes for each potato you cook. Allow to cool if you plan to eat them immediately, or add the diced potatoes to your dish if part of another recipe.
