Homemade Frosting Tube (5 Steps)
Never serve another naked cake because you couldn't find a frosting tube. When you need to decorate a cake, use items already in your kitchen to make a homemade piping bag. The greatest benefit: no clean up. Purchase specialty tips at a cake decorating shop or craft store, and use your favorite store-bought or homemade icing to personalize your cake.
Things You'll Need
- Zip-top bag
- Widemouth jar
- Frosting decorating tips (optional)
- Frosting
- Spatula
- Scissors
Instructions

Snip off the tip of one of the bottom corners of the zip-top bag. Optionally, insert the decorating tip into the bag and push the opening of the tip through the cut portion, leaving the rest of the tip in the bag.
-
Open the zip-top bag inside the jar. Fold the edges of the bag over the side of the mouth of the jar.
-
Transfer the frosting into the bag using a spatula.
-
Remove the bag from the jar and push the frosting down toward the cut corner.
-
Apply even pressure to the top of the bag to push the icing out through the cut corner.
