Why baking soda changes its colour when you rub beetroot?
Baking soda, chemically known as sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3), does not change colour when rubbed with beetroot. While baking soda is a white powdery substance, beetroot contains a red pigment called betalain. When you rub beetroot on a surface, the betalain pigment is transferred, resulting in a reddish stain. However, baking soda itself remains unchanged and does not exhibit a colour change.
