How to Make Monkey Bread With Frozen Rolls

Monkey bread is a sweet breakfast or special-occasion dessert for many American families. Although this snack is rich and decadent, it can make a great treat for both children and adults. Young children, in particular, seem to enjoy eating monkey bread, as it requires nothing more than a set of fingers to eat. While it looks impressive on the table to guests and family alike, monkey bread requires surprisingly little time to prepare.

Things You'll Need

  • 24 oz. frozen dinner roll dough (24 rolls)
  • Stick of butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 tbsp. cinnamon
  • Chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
  • Bundt pan
  • Knife
  • Pastry brush

Instructions

  1. Take your frozen rolls out and thaw them on the countertop.

  2. Mix sugar and cinnamon thoroughly in a clean, dry bowl.

  3. Unwrap and generously rub one end of your stick of butter on the inside of your bundt pan.

  4. Cut your butter into small cubes.

  5. Place your butter in a pot on medium heat and let the butter melt.

  6. Turn off the heat when the butter has been completely melted, and set the pot aside.

  7. Cut all of your thawed rolls in half.

  8. Roll one half between your hands until it has formed a ball.

  9. Set this ball aside and repeat with every other half.

  10. Dip each ball in the melted butter, then roll each buttered ball in the cinnamon-sugar mixture.

  11. Place the ball gently in the bundt pan and repeat with the rest of the dough balls. Do not attempt to squeeze the pieces together, as the balls will expand in the bundt pan.

  12. Cover the pan with a damp towel and wait until the dough has doubled in size, following the roll dough producers' instructions. This may take as long as eight hours or overnight, depending on the brand of frozen roll you have purchased.

  13. When your monkey bread is ready to bake, preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.

  14. Place your bundt pan in the oven for 45 minutes until the top has browned.

  15. Turn your monkey bread onto a large plate.

  16. Brush melted butter on the top of your baked monkey bread.

  17. Sprinkle cinnamon sugar and chopped pecans or walnuts on the top of your bread. Serve warm.
