How to Make a Mini Diaper in Fondant

Make a set of miniature diapers from fondant to decorate a cake for a baby shower. You can make the diapers in plain white fondant to look like regular cloth diapers or use pink, blue or a neutral color to coordinate with the shower's color scheme. To use the fondant diapers as shower favors for your guests, fill each of the diapers with a few candies and wrap the diapers in pieces of tulle netting.

Things You'll Need

  • White fondant
  • Rolling pin
  • Dull knife
  • Sharp knife
  • Foam padding
  • Tissue paper

Instructions

  1. Roll out the white fondant until it reaches a thickness of about 1/8-inch.

  2. Trace a figure of an open cloth diaper onto the fondant with a dull knife. The figure should look like a rounded hourglass shape.

  3. Cut out the shape and place the fondant diaper on a piece of foam padding.

  4. Scrunch up a small piece of tissue paper and place it on top of one half of the diaper. Fold up the other end of the diaper over top of the tissue paper and press the sides of the diaper together gently to hold the shape. Let the diaper dry for 24 hours. Remove the tissue paper from within the diaper carefully.

  5. Roll two small pieces of fondant in your choice of color into tiny, thin logs. Each piece should equal about 1-inch long by 1/8-inch wide.

  6. Bring the ends of one piece together and make an elongated shape like a diaper pin. Do the same with the other small piece of fondant. Let the fondant pieces dry for 3 to 4 hours.

  7. Moisten the back of each tiny diaper pin with water and press one to the left side of the fondant diaper and one to the right side.
