Does baking soda have chemicals in it?
Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) is a natural compound composed of sodium, hydrogen, carbon, and oxygen. It does not contain any "synthetic" or man-made chemicals. When mixed with an acid, baking soda can release carbon dioxide gas, which is responsible for its leavening properties in baking. In its pure form, baking soda is generally considered safe for both consumption and household use.
