How do you make edible skin?
Edible gelatin-based skin:
Ingredients:
1 tablespoon unflavored gelatin powder
2 tablespoons cold water
2 tablespoons hot water
1/4 cup olive oil
1/2 teaspoon salt
Food coloring (optional)
Instructions:
In a small bowl, sprinkle the gelatin powder over the cold water. Let it sit for 5 minutes, or until the gelatin has softened and absorbed the water.
Bring the hot water to a boil in a saucepan. Reduce the heat to low and add the softened gelatin mixture. Stir constantly until the gelatin is completely dissolved.
Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the olive oil and salt. If desired, add a few drops of food coloring.
Let the mixture cool for a few minutes, until it has thickened slightly but is still liquid.
Pour the mixture into a shallow, airtight container and let it cool completely in the refrigerator. This may take several hours or overnight.
Once the skin has set, remove it from the refrigerator and cut it into the desired shapes.
Use the edible skin to wrap food items or to create decorative elements for cakes and other desserts.
Note: The skin will be slightly sticky, but this can be reduced by dipping it in a small amount of water before using.
