How to Stuff Muffins (10 Steps)

Much easier than putting a ship in a bottle, stuffing a muffin adds just one or two extra steps to your favorite muffin recipe. If you can't find a stuffed muffin recipe you like, don't fret. As long as your desired filling isn't too syrupy or tough, it can often be added to traditional muffin recipes without alteration. Use jalapeno jelly, herbed cream cheese or sausage chunks for stuffing savory corn muffins. Fruit jam or plain cream cheese are among your options for filling banana, cinnamon, raisin-bran and other sweet muffins.

Things You'll Need

  • 2 Mixing bowls
  • Dry measuring cups
  • Liquid measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons
  • Muffin ingredients
  • Filling ingredients (e.g. cream cheese, jam, sausage)
  • Muffin tin
  • Scoop or large spoon
  • Cooking racks

Instructions

  1. Prepare your filling. Depending on the muffins you're making, this could involve cutting sausage into bite-size pieces, blending cream cheese with snipped chives or simply opening a jar of raspberry jam.

  2. Mix your dry ingredients in a mixing bowl. Stir together wet ingredients in a separate bowl.

  3. Make a well in the center of the dry mixture and pour the wet mixture into the dry, stirring until the batter is well-combined.

  4. Grease your muffin tin.

  5. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, or the time specified on your standard muffin recipe.

  6. Fill each of the muffin cavities 1/3 to 1/2 full of batter.

  7. Set a spoonful or piece of your filling at the center of the batter. Make sure less solid items like cream cheese or jam are ball-shaped rather than spread over the entire surface of the wet batter.

  8. Pour the rest of the batter into the muffin tin, until each cavity is filled about two-thirds or slightly above.

  9. Bake for about 20 minutes before inserting a toothpick into the center of the muffin. If it comes out clean, remove the muffin tin from the oven.

  10. Remove the muffins from the tin and let cool on a wire rack. Serve warm or at room temperature.
