How to Make a Number Out of Cupcakes (7 Steps)

Cupcakes use the same basic ingredients as standard-sized cakes; however, they're more convenient for small functions where only a few people will be served. Number cupcakes provide a way to take that a step further -- and add a special touch to the traditional cupcake. Make a number cupcake to display your child's age at his next birthday party or as a funny birthday treat to helpfully remind your spouse of his age at his next birthday celebration.

Things You'll Need

  • Numbers cake molds
  • Bakeware cookie sheet
  • 2 bowls
  • Vegetable, olive or canola oil
  • Twelve 1/4 cups sifted cake flour
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup melted butter (no substitutes)
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

  2. Lightly grease the number mold(s) and baking sheet.

  3. Fill a bowl with flour and mix in other dry ingredients.

  4. In a separate bowl, combine butter, milk, eggs and vanilla. Stir them into the flour mixture.

  5. In a separate bowl, combine butter, milk, eggs and vanilla. Stirring in the flour mixture, add all wet ingredients and blend.

  6. Lay number cake molds flat on a baking sheet, and fill them with batter. Fill the molds two-thirds full.

  7. Place the baking sheet in a preheated oven for 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the size of the mold.
Periodically, check on the cupcakes by placing a toothpick into the center of the cupcake until the toothpick comes out clean.
