How to Precook Bacon (6 Steps)
If you love bacon for breakfast but don't have time to cook it in the morning, you can precook your bacon and heat it quickly in the microwave. Precooked bacon makes a handy addition to salads and sandwiches and will keep for weeks in the freezer. For small households, where it can be difficult to use up a pound of bacon before it goes bad, precooking bacon prevents waste. Cooking bacon this way also makes less of a mess in the kitchen than frying it on the stove.
Things You'll Need
- Broiler pan
- Tongs
- Paper towels
- Zip top plastic bag
Instructions
-
Arrange broiler rack on pan. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees. If you do not own a broiler rack, place a wire baking rack on a cookie sheet.
-
Arrange bacon on the rack, separating each slice. The slices may touch each other, but try not to let them overlap. Use two pans if necessary.
-
Cook the bacon for 5 to 7 minutes. Monitor the bacon and remove it from the oven when the edges just begin to brown.
-
Turn over each slice of bacon, using the tongs. Return the pan to the oven and bake for another 5 to 7 minutes, or until brown and crisp.
-
Drain bacon on paper towels and newspaper. Store the cooked bacon slices in a zip-top bag in the freezer.
-
Reheat bacon in the microwave. Wrap bacon slices in a paper towel and cook at full power 10 to 15 seconds per slice.
