What was the first ever biscuit made?
It's impossible to say for sure what the *very* first biscuit was, as baking predates written records. However, we can look at some of the earliest known forms of baked goods:
* Ancient Egypt: Evidence suggests they made flatbreads and simple cookies using flour, honey, and nuts.
* Ancient Rome: Romans enjoyed "biscoctum" (meaning "twice baked"), a hard, unleavened bread used by soldiers for long journeys.
* Medieval Europe: Monks were known to bake small, hard crackers called "wafers," which were often used for communion.
So, while we can't pinpoint the exact "first" biscuit, it's safe to say that early forms of biscuits existed in various cultures long before the modern version we know today.
It's more interesting to consider the evolution of biscuit-making. Over time, ingredients and techniques improved, leading to the diverse range of biscuits we have today.
