Why is there a cross over Irish SODA bread?
There is no cross on Irish soda bread. Sourdough Bread is what has a cross on top. The purpose of the cross is to show the bread was made with a starter culture. The cross also encourages the bread to rise evenly and to create a crusty exterior.
