Can you prepare but not cook bread stuffing the day before?
Ingredients
- 12 slices white bread, torn into small pieces
- 1/4 pound unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 2 celery stalks, chopped
- 2 carrots, chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon dried sage
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 cups chicken broth
Day before
1. In a large bowl, combine the torn bread, melted butter, chopped onion, celery, and carrots.
2. Sprinkle the mixture with sage, salt, and pepper, and toss to combine.
3. Transfer the mixture to a 9x13-inch baking dish and refrigerate overnight.
Day of
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. Pour the chicken broth over the bread mixture and stir to combine.
3. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
4. Remove the foil and continue baking until the stuffing is golden brown, another 15-20 minutes.
