What is a carrots origin?
Carrots likely originated from Central Asia. The first evidence of carrot domestication dates back to the 10th century in Afghanistan. They were used for their leafy tops, while the roots were not commonly eaten. By the 13th century, carrots had been introduced to Europe and were used in stews and soups, and the roots were also being eaten. The carrots we eat today were developed from the wild carrot, Daucus carota, and are now cultivated worldwide.
