Is cucumber plants annual or perennial?

Cucumber plants are usually grown as annuals, meaning that they complete their life cycle in one growing season. They are planted from seeds in the spring and will produce fruit throughout the summer until the fall when the weather becomes too cold. After the first frost, the cucumber plants will die and need to be replanted the following year.

However, some varieties of cucumbers, such as the Mexican sour gherkin (Melothria scabra) and the West Indian gherkin (Cucumis anguria), can be grown as perennials in warm climates. These varieties are more resistant to cold weather and can survive for several years. They will still need to be replanted every few years, as they can become less productive over time.
