What is sticky-tack made of?
Sticky Tack is composed of isobutylene and styrene polymers. Both substances are known to provide adhesiveness without leaving a significant residue after they are peeled off a surface.
- Isobutylene: This unsaturated hydrocarbon gas forms the primary component of sticky tack; typically constituting more than half of its total compound content.
- Styrene (also identified as ethenylbenzene) is considered a liquid aromatic hydrocarbon. This colorless organic compound makes up more than thirty-five percent of the tack compound with its remaining portions usually involving some percentage of fillers.
- Fillers can vary but might involve such mineral-based compounds as clay and silicates or other substances such as resin or plasticizers (substances added to provide added elasticity and other useful qualities to rubber mixtures and similar materials.)
