WHAT IS SIDE DISH SALAD?
Side dish salads are dishes of salad which are served as an accompaniment to a cooked main meal. They are often smaller than main dish salads such as Caesar salads, but larger than the simple green salads that sometimes accompany a meal and usually include only leaves dressed with an oil and vinegar mixture.
Side dish salads often offer flavors, contrasting textures and colors which complement a main dish but still allow the main course to be the focus of the meal. Salad side dishes are often prepared and stored separately from the main meal and added just before serving.
For example, a chef might make a steak and serve it with a side dish salad of tomatoes, carrots, and corn on a bed of lettuce, topped with a ranch dressing.
