How to Give a Salad a Balsamic Glaze (3 Steps)
Pairing the contents of a salad with the right flavor makes the difference between a bland and tasty appetizer or meal. Balsamic glaze combines the tangy taste of vinegar with the sweetness of caramelized sugar for a balanced topping that provides a spectrum of flavor. The texture of balsamic glaze is thicker than that of a typical dressing, creating a saucelike coating for salads. You can experiment with adding flavorings to balsamic glazes and by varying salad components, such as meat, fish, fruit, nuts and cheeses.
Things You'll Need
- Brown sugar
- Saucepan
- Balsamic vinegar
- Flavorings
- Spoon
- Bowl
Instructions
-
Pour 1 part brown sugar into a saucepan. Add 4 1/2 parts balsamic vinegar. Add flavorings of your choosing, such as cinnamon, clove, garlic or the zest of a citrus fruit.
-
Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat. Reduce the heat to low and simmer the mixture for about 10 minutes, stirring continually until the mixture reduces and thickens into a glaze.
-
Remove the balsamic glaze from the heat and pour it into a bowl. Chill the mixture in the refrigerator until it reaches your desired temperature. Drizzle the balsamic glaze over salad. Toss the salad to coat its contents with the glaze.
