Why do potatoes have wart like surface?
Potatoes don't actually have warts! The bumpy surface you see on potatoes is called lenticels.
Here's what they are and why they're important:
* Lenticels are small, raised pores found on the surface of potato tubers (and other plants, like tree bark).
* They are essential for gas exchange. They allow oxygen to enter the potato and carbon dioxide to escape, which is crucial for respiration (how the potato gets energy).
* They also help regulate moisture. Lenticels can open and close to control water loss.
So, those bumps aren't warts, they're vital for the potato's survival!
