What can the potato plant grow from?
Potato plants can grow from two main sources:
1. Tubers: These are the starchy underground stems we commonly eat. A potato tuber contains "eyes" which are buds that can sprout into new plants.
2. Seeds: Potato plants also produce tiny seeds inside green berries. These seeds can be used to grow new plants, but this method is rarely used as it takes longer for the plant to mature and produce tubers.
It's important to note that potato plants grown from seeds may not have the same characteristics as the parent plant. This is because potatoes are often bred through cloning techniques, meaning they maintain the exact same genetic makeup as the parent plant.
