How do you clean a muskrat?
To clean a muskrat:
1. Skin the muskrat.
- You can do this by making a cut from the neck to the belly, then carefully peeling the skin off the body. Be sure to remove all of the fat and connective tissue.
2. Remove the entrails.
- Cut open the muskrat's belly and remove all of the organs, including the heart, lungs, liver, and kidneys.
3. Clean the muskrat's body.
- Rinse the inside and outside of the muskrat's body with cold water. Be sure to remove any blood or dirt.
4. Soak the muskrat in saltwater.
- This will help to remove any remaining blood and dirt, as well as to tenderize the meat. Soak the muskrat for at least 30 minutes.
5. Drain the muskrat and pat it dry.
- Remove the muskrat from the saltwater and pat it dry with paper towels.
6. The muskrat is now ready to be cooked.
- You can roast it, fry it, or stew it.
